Breakfast in The George - Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western
Restaurant/Places to Eat in The George - Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western
Property Building in The George - Sure Hotel Collection by Best Western
I choose the George as it was the cheapest accommodation in the area. The standards far exceeded my expectations. The room was in a separate block and had a private outside area. It was spacious and clean. The hospitality tray included as well as the usual tea, coffee and milk, bottled water, biscuits, hot chocolate, a selection of herbal teas, biscuits and a jar of sweets. On the bed there was left a welcome letter together with a plastic bag enclosing some home made treats. There was also in the cupboard an iron and ironing board as well as a hairdryer. The staff were all very helpful. We had not booked breakfast but were able to in the morning. It was buffet style and the quality and quantity of food was excellent. There were home made pancakes available which I don't think I have seen before on a breakfast buffet. The check out wasn't until 11am so we had time to explore the gardens. The hotel is on the bank of the river Tees

Unique amazing humorous and totally professional characters who are the staff in a luxurious historic building in a setting that could be from an Agatha Christie combined with a carry on film. Brandon a new member of staff is an absolute asset..He goes way and above to help guests in any way he can.He will go far with an admirable attitude. Karin and Amanda are a hilarious team and totally brighten the spirit of all the breakfast guests with amazing humour and wonderful service. David is extremely helpful and very genuinely concerned for any problems guests have.Neil is amazing working so hard but will instantly help you.Mark the manager is more than welcoming.A fabulous team Sad to hear Emma has left. She would do anything for anyone with huge enthusiasm and brilliant humour.

Beautiful period pub! Great location not far from A1/A66. We stopped on route from Scotland. Lovely area near Barnard Castle, great walks around the George which has the river running behind it. Room was clean, warm, newly decorated. Bed was comfortable and towels white and fluffy. All wall sockets had usb charging ports. Nice tv, good selection of coffee tea, water in the room with biscuits. Breakfast was amazing, beautiful eggs royale and cooked english breakfast picked from the menu, coffee and tea. Help yourself croissants, toast, cereal, yoghurts, fruit, bead/toast jams, muffins, fruit juices. Staff very polite and pleasant and the bat was open for a drink when we arrived 9.45pm .

They were having a bit of a computer meltdown when we arrived, but were seated in the bar with a free drink whilst they sorted it out. Then we were given a fantastic big room with a balcony and view over the river - way beyond our selection I think - so thanks to the guys for bothering to take care of us! It's a lovely old original coaching inn right by the Tees, next to a stone river bridge (the old Roman one is a ruin close by). There are annexes so you can probably avoid noise if there is a wedding or event going on - but it was nice and quite midweek and the bar is quite cosy, with good food. Great value and a nice surprise!

Having seen the price of hotels go up by ridiculous amounts ( Prem Inn etc ) as a company we have looked for cheaper alternatives , blown away by the value for money at The George and is why it’s been given a 10 ,a quirky old building 1500s with lots of interesting features . Food was excellent as was the service and at a fair price and staff friendly , a sit by the water while having a beer is always good as well .Surprised to have not just freeview but a fire stick with Netflix, prime etc all working ,had a good nights sleep , lots of wee extras as well , jar of sweets in room .Would definitely stay again
